What: Developers wanting to save time and money, develop sustainable and reusable code and avoid conflicts are using standards. Good quality implementations guarantee to get the best benefits from this effort. This is why the Joint Research Center, JRC, and the Open Geospatial Consortium, OGC, have developed specific tools called INSPIRE Validator or OGC Compliance tools, to allow to check the good quality of the implementations. NASA also provides this type of tool which has been used by NextGEOSS to validate the good quality of their Opensearch API made available to all to access Earth Observation data. This is important for developers to validate the quality of their code, for solution vendors to create trust, for buyers to specify some level of quality in the tenders.

Why now: H2020 calls encourage the use of standards. NextGEOSS and e-shape decided to join efforts to share their experience and develop capacity building resources on this important topic.

Who is it for: Developers, Project Managers, Products owners , generally IT stakeholders, the European Commission in general and specifically the H2020 community. As NextGEOSS and e-shape are contributions to GEO, a special emphasis is made on Earth Observation even if the topic is more general.
